THE HISTORY OF SOUND premieres at the American Film Festival and British Film Festival!

The first screenings of THE HISTORY OF SOUND in Poland will take place at the American Film Festival and British Film Festival (in the FIRST THINGS FIRST section) in November!

It captured the imagination of audiences in Cannes, and now it's heading to your favorite film festivals in Poland—this fall will be filled with special preview screenings of THE HISTORY OF SOUND!

Marta Bałaga writes about the film:

Director Oliver Hermanus knows how difficult it can sometimes be to talk about love—in his latest melodrama, screened at the Cannes Film Festival, even the film's protagonists (Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor) are unable to do so. Fortunately, the music does it for them.

It is thanks to music that Lionel and David meet in 1917 at a piano standing somewhere in a dark pub. They are united by their love of simple folk songs, which they associate with the safety of home. And although the world is about to change and war will dominate reality, they decide to save them from oblivion. Snatching moments of closeness and intimacy that are not permitted in their world, they set off on a summer journey. They visit forgotten villages to listen to stories sung in the evenings about loss and hope, tenderness and violence, bringing hope to other people's lives that their music will survive no matter what. At the same time, they wonder if the same violent, overwhelming feeling that they are not ready to name will happen to them.

The American Film Festival will take place in Wrocław between November 6 and 11. Passes are on sale until October 17 (or until sold out); the full festival program will be announced on October 21. The program includes independent gems, top-shelf Hollywood, a Susan Seidelman retrospective, Politics on Screen, and for dessert, Freaks and Geeks, the best comedies of the early 2000s.
