Save the Date! BFF Industry

‍On 12–13 November, during the British Film Festival at Kino Muza in Poznań, representatives of the British and Polish film industries, producers, institutions, regional film funds and experts will come together to discuss the state of the film industry today and where to look for new opportunities for collaboration.

This year’s Industry section takes a closer look at the UK as one of the most important partners in the European film market — from the state of British cinema and the growing role of regions, through the practice of international co-productions, to the future of European film funding following the MEDIA programme.‍

Here’s a first look at the programme!

What can you expect from BFF Industry? An exchange of experiences and perspectives: panel discussions, case studies, expert talks and data presentations offering an insight into both the current state of British cinema and the future of international collaboration.

One of the first sessions will be “The State of the British Film Industry: Challenges, Opportunities and International Collaboration.” What is the state of the British film industry today? What challenges is the sector facing, and where are new opportunities emerging?

We’ll take a closer look at the British market through the numbers. In “The British Film Industry in Numbers,” we will present data and trends that offer a clearer picture of what one of Europe’s most important film markets really looks like today.

Is the British film industry all about London? In the panel “Beyond London: Regions as Drivers of British Film Production,” we will focus on the growing role of regional production and film funds. They are attracting productions, developing local talent and creating new opportunities for international producers. How do they work? What can they offer Polish filmmakers?

We will also take a practical look at Polish-British collaboration. “Behind the Scenes of a Polish-British Co-production” is a case study exploring how an international co-production actually comes together — from the producers’ first contact, through building a partnership and dividing responsibilities, to the challenges that emerge along the way. No theory — just concrete projects, real-world experience and lessons learned in practice.

We will also take a broader look at the future of the European film sector. The panel “A New European Landscape: What’s Next for European Cinema After the MEDIA Programme?” will explore the changing funding landscape, Brexit and the development of new co-production models. The discussion will help make sense not only of the Agora EU programme, but above all of the logic behind the changes currently taking place across Europe’s audiovisual sector.
