BBC Studios Returns to British Film Festival

British Film Festival and BBC Studios are continuing their partnership for the festival’s third edition. This year’s programme showcases the diversity of British television, from crime mysteries inspired by the legacy of Agatha Christie and animation for younger audiences to a behind-the-scenes look at the making of one of the most important wildlife series in BBC history. All screenings will take place at Kino Pałacowe at the ZAMEK Culture Centre and will be free of charge.

From the very beginning, British Film Festival has explored the full diversity of British audiovisual culture. The festival is a reminder that the line between cinema and television matters less and less when what counts is a compelling story, a bold idea and outstanding craftsmanship.

“I’m delighted that our collaboration with BBC Studios is becoming a permanent part of British Film Festival. This partnership allows us to explore British audiovisual culture from a broader perspective and reminds us that great cinematic experiences are not reserved exclusively for feature films made for the big screen. We particularly value the opportunity to meet the people behind these productions and discover stories that are rooted in British tradition while remaining fresh and relevant to audiences today,” says Dorota Reksińska, founder and programmer of British Film Festival.

One of this year’s highlights is the series Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence. Its creator, Phoebe Éclair-Powell, will be visiting Poznań to meet audiences after exclusive preview screenings of episodes from the series. It’s an opportunity to discuss bringing crime stories to the screen and explore why Agatha Christie’s legacy continues to inspire generations of storytellers. Mystery, unexpected twists and characters who are not always what they seem remain hallmarks of stories audiences love to return to. The meeting with the writer will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the series and explore how classic crime fiction finds its place in contemporary television.

The partnership programme also includes Making Life on Earth: Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure, a film exploring the making of the groundbreaking wildlife series Life on Earth. In the year Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, audiences will have the chance to revisit the story of a production that changed the way we tell stories about the natural world. Fifty years ago, during the making of the series, the crew spent three years travelling across 40 countries on different continents and filmed more than 600 animal species.

“At BBC Studios, great stories are at the heart of everything we do — no matter how they are told or which generations of viewers they reach. We’re delighted to be partnering with British Film Festival for the second time and bringing our productions to the big screen. This year’s programme showcases the breadth of British storytelling, from crime mysteries and stories for younger audiences to extraordinary encounters with the natural world. We’re particularly excited about the preview screening of Tommy & Tuppence, a new take on the adventures of characters created by Agatha Christie. We also invite audiences to join us for a festival conversation with the series’ writer and producer, Phoebe Éclair-Powell,” says Bartosz Witak, SVP, General Manager CEE, MENA and Turkey, BBC Studios.

There’s also something for the youngest viewers: Hey Duggee: The Squirrel Club. Duggee and his friends Happy, Roly, Tag, Norrie and Betty are part of the Squirrel Club, a place where preschoolers are encouraged to play, get active and discover new interests. Each episode is divided into themed segments covering topics such as food, art, music, games and nature. It’s an ideal choice for little viewers aged three and up.
