RETROSPECTIVE: STEPHEN DALDRY

Stephen Daldry’s cinema offers no easy answers. Instead, it invites us to look more closely, question, and approach both the world's complexity and the choices people make with empathy and curiosity.

We are proud to dedicate this year’s directorial retrospective to Stephen Daldry. Each screening of the films that earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Director – BILLY ELLIOT, THE HOURS and THE READER – and will be followed by a Q&A with British Film Festival audiences. The programme also honours Daldry’s roots in theatre, with NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE: THE AUDIENCE, his acclaimed stage production starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II.
