ANEMONE
ANEMONE
The highly anticipated return of Daniel Day-Lewis in the directorial debut of his son, Ronan. Starring alongside Sean Penn and Samantha Morton, Day-Lewis delivers a mesmerising turn in this hypnotic drama about family secrets and the fragility of memory.
An unprecedented event at the second edition of the British Film Festival: one of the first screening in Poland of ANEMONE, the directorial debut of Ronan Day-Lewis, marking the return to the screen after years of silence of his father, the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis.
Following his announcement of retirement from acting after PHANTOM THREAD, it was hard to come to terms with the loss of one of the most outstanding talents of his generation. His participation in his son’s directorial debut can be considered a symbolic gesture, a dialogue between generations, and the passing of the artistic baton. The screen presence of Sean Bean and Samantha Morton is also a delight.
The film itself is a dense, mesmerising psychological drama about the fragility of memory and family secrets that poison the present. It is a story about isolation, confrontation with the past and an attempt to understand where truth ends and illusion begins.
Ronan Day-Lewis, previously a painter, proves that he has his own mature voice, and his debut is a precise and visually refined film. He worked on the script together with his father, and the details of the film are shrouded in mystery. We invite you to discover it.
